Jeff knew that Alex wanted two things when proposed to… her nails to look nice and that the moment be captured in photos. He also thought it would be sweet if her family could witness the moment and join in the celebration. And finally, he wanted it to be a surprise (and according to Alex, it’s not easy to surprise her).
The plan that Jeff came up with was brilliant. Alex’s entire family was traveling to Athens to celebrate her brother’s graduation from UGA Law School. They set up a photo shoot that was “to capture some graduation photos and family photos”… so NOT at all about Alex & Jeff. It seemed completely normal, and when I asked Jeff & Alex to go stand by the fountain as “test subjects” while the family gathered for photos, they happily obliged. It was in that moment that Jeff turned and dropped to a knee, pulling out a stunning engagement ring. Alex was SHOCKED and instantly began crying. Their pup Lily watched from the sidelines, and when Alex’s mom turned around and saw what was unfolding, there were more tears (she was the other person left out of the plan that Jeff wanted to surprise). It was a perfect moment.
I am just grateful that this bunch had such a great attitude about the weather. While it looked like we’d be in the clear, it actually started raining right before we began pictures. But fortunately the drops were little and the family embraced it. We still got some gorgeous photos around UGA’s Founders Memorial Garden, and I’m so happy that Jeff trusted me to capture this special occasion!! Congrats, Jeff & Alex!
