I was so impressed when Chris contacted me months in advance of a proposal he was planning for his girlfriend, Katie. I swooned even harder when I heard the plan… and the backstory. Apparently Chris & Katie had been dating for only a few months when one day they were walking around downtown Athens and noticed that the Georgia Theatre marquee read: “I love you, Katie.” Being so early in the relationship, Katie snapped “you didn’t do that, did you?!” and Chris neither denied nor confirmed. Chris decided that if Katie saw her name on the Georgia Theatre sign now, she’d know for certain that it was for her this time. Chris also knew that Katie admired my photography, so he asked if I’d capture the big moment. To make sure Katie had her nails done and would be picture-perfect for those ring shots (how thoughtful is he?!), he bought two tickets to a spa and had one of Katie’s best friends invite her to a spa day. And to top it off, he had given Katie the suspicion that he was going to propose over Thanksgiving when family is around. Needless to say, she was shocked. I loved watching as each level of the surprise unfolded and Katie learned just how much thought and time Chris had put into this moment. The passersby also got a kick out of the proposal… One lady filmed it, and then a church youth group asked for a photo with the newly engaged couple. Afterward, we enjoyed walking around downtown, taking more photos, soaking in the perfect weather, and reveling in the occasion. We also made a stop at the UGA Arch since Chris had yet to walk under it after graduation. Katie was, appropriately, overwhelmed with emotion the entire time and kept saying things like “Now I get to kiss him all the time. I love this.” To end a perfect day, Chris had made dinner reservations at the Last Resort, where he told Katie he loved her for the first time. *melt*
Thank you, Chris, for allowing me to be a part of such an exciting moment, and CONGRATULATIONS to you both!
