I met Lucy when taking her UGA senior photos FIVE years ago (wow, time flies!), so naturally I squealed when Kery reached out to me about capturing his proposal to Lucy. They had a plan to get both families together for a meal at Montaluce Winery on Mother’s Day weekend, so this felt like a good time for Kery to propose, and he couldn’t have chosen a more breathtaking location.
Proposals are a blast to photograph, but are also NERVE-WRACKING because it’s a big moment and so much can go wrong. What we weren’t anticipating when planning was the fact that it would be a super rainy day. Kery wanted to propose underneath a tree that overlooked the vineyard, but this plan required clear skies, at least momentarily.
So here I was… hiding IN THE WOODS knowing that Lucy would recognize me if I were out in the open… watching Kery drive up on my iPhone (we were sharing locations)… and PRAYING for the rain to stop. My stomach was in knots because we truly didn’t have a backup plan we liked as much as this original location, and the rain literally didn’t stop until the MOMENT Kery & Lucy arrived.
Right as they were parking, the rain finally paused and we were blessed with a perfect window of time for the proposal and lots of adorable photos afterward. The craziest part is that as I packed up my car to leave afterward, the rain started again and continued through the night. So TRULY we were so blessed with the timing. It turned out so perfect, and I’m extremely honored to have been there to capture it.
Below (first picture) is the tree under which Kery proposed, and my view from inside the woods before creeping out behind them after they approached.
Here is Kery’s family watching from the restaurant patio. They told him after that he should’ve stayed on a knee longer, but he explained that he was only “hovering” so as to not get his pants soaking wet before photos (BRILLIANT).
