If y’all have been following me for a while, you know that every year I do a “behind the scenes” post. I’ve done one in 2015, 2016, 2017, and now I’m sharing my 2018 with you. These posts have become my FAVORITE to share, because they show what wedding days look like from behind the camera. They show the outtakes, the quick candid moments, and what my job actually entails. I used to be embarrassed by some of the images I’d share in these posts, but now I embrace the silliness and the fact that I often look like a hot mess on wedding days (comfort is my #1 priority when working such long exhausting days… especially when it’s 100 degrees outside!). I also love putting together this post each year because it reminds me of all the INCREDIBLE weddings I am blessed to photograph and couples I get to work with.
Last year I wrote that 2017 took me to twelve new venues… well 2018 beat that with THIRTEEN new venues! And many of my favorite repeat venues as well. This past year took me to Charleston, Saint Simons, Atlanta, the North Georgia mountains, and more. I got to photograph in ballrooms, estates, hotels, country clubs, backyards, barns, breweries, and museums. I love how different and unique each wedding I photograph is.
In 2018, I worked with an extraordinarily talented team, and I want to give a special shout out to my #1 righthand gal: Melissa. She is in a large amount of these photos, and she took many of the ones that she wasn’t in. This isn’t her first year with me, but I still want to thank her for her dedication and service to our clients. From fetching bouquets, to holding the bride’s dress, to passing out water, to easing people’s stresses, to setting up my lighting before I can even blink, she has been there for it all.
I also got to work with so many vendors that I absolutely adore. It really is true that teamwork makes the dream work, and I love when my couples trust my vendor recommendations. There are MANY that I’m obsessed with, but I have to say a special thank you to Georgia Grace Weddings (coordination) and BEV Weddings (videography) for always giving 150% for our couples and for being a blast to work alongside this past year.
It’s funny going back through these images at the end of each year. Some things change, like my attire. In 2018 I discovered how amazing jumpsuits are for photographing weddings, and that maxi dresses + leggings are the jam in the winter. And some things don’t change, like my orange crate (which people joke is my “mascot”).
I hope you enjoy the following photos, and stay tuned for PART 2, where I’ll show some “before and afters” of the images I create. And to every couple who trusted me and my team with your special days in 2018… THANK YOU. Truly. I can’t describe the honor it is to walk alongside you and preserve these memories for you.
Working through that family shot list…
Often standing on stages, chairs, or DJ speakers in order to get the shot…
When we’re not shooting, my assistant and I are making sure that our bries and grooms don’t have to worry about a THING. We will hold your bouquet, lay out your train perfectly, cover you with an umbrella when it rains, tie your bows and bustle your dresses.
Often pausing to show you that YOU LOOK AMAZING!
Testing out reception dance floor lighting…
And practicing for that cake cutting…
And even though we mean business, you may or may not catch us on the dance floor occasionally… sometimes willingly and sometimes when we’re dragged out by our amazing couples.
To every couple who trusted us to capture your special day in 2018, THANK YOU. From the bottom of our hearts.
