Peggy and Robert are high school sweethearts who have been together for 8+ years. Peggy grew up a big Georgia Bulldogs fan and even attended UGA for a bit, while Robert went to college at Auburn University. In 2018 on the weekend of the Georgia/Auburn game, Robert proposed to Peggy during a trip to the Grand Canyon. It was only fitting that they get married on the day of the Georgia/Auburn game this year! They had the game playing on the speakers during cocktail hour, and of course many people (including Peggy) were thrilled when mid-dancing it was announced that Georgia won!
I love how intimate and personal this wedding was. They chose to get married in the backyard of Peggy’s childhood home. It felt like one big family reunion, dogs, cats, and all. I got to see the house shortly after they chose it as their venue, and it was incredible seeing how they had transformed it for the day of the wedding. The florals were put together by friends, the ceremony arbor was built by Peggy & her dad, even Peggy’s old bedroom was painted and converted to a “bridal suite,” etc… It was definitely a labor of love.
They incorporated such thoughtful details, such as decorating with cardinals in loving memory of those who couldn’t be in attendance, because “when a cardinal appears, angels are near.” Their dog, Stuart, got to dress up in plaid with the ladies while getting ready and wear a groomsmen bowtie later during the wedding. They also did one of my FAVORITE things — tossed rose petals and blew bubbles during their ceremony recessional — which made the happiest moment of the day even more celebratory. During the reception, Peggy & Robert shared their first dance to “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” sang by Peggy’s sister-in-law. And then they DANCED until late in the night.
I’m so happy that Peggy & Robert got their happy ending and are now finally in the same place after many years of long distance. They are two of the sweetest people, and I have absolutely adored getting to know them during this exciting time in their lives.
