I’m used to my heart racing a little as I photograph proposals and weddings, because they’re such monumental occasions and moments that you can’t get back. I normally don’t experience that same kind of “rush” during a typical portrait session. However, when Kayla pulled out her commitment letter stating that she’d be attending Yale Law School and told me that she wanted me to capture her actually putting it in the mail, I felt like I was witnessing history. My heart started racing, and I made her pose with the letter several times before actually letting her drop it in the mailbox. It was definitely one of my favorite moments I’ve had during a portrait session.
Kayla graduated from UGA back in 2016 and has spent her recent years teaching English in Thailand, working as a legal assistant, and applying to prestigious law schools, including Yale, Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, NYU, Berkeley, and UVA… and she got into ALL of them. How incredible is that?! So I’m thrilled that she decided to do a portrait session to celebrate this accomplishment. We started with her Yale “announcement” photos but then went to some more whimsical locations and took fun pictures amongst wildflowers and the golden hour light. She looks like a complete GODDESS in these photos, and I’m so glad I got to share this time with her. Congrats, Kayla!! Wishing you the best as you start this next chapter!
