Katie & Chris both grew up in Savannah, but they didn’t meet until after they had both moved away for school. It was when they both went home for the summer break of 2012 that their paths finally crossed… at a hair salon! Chris had been using the same hair dresser his entire life, while Katie says she had only gotten her hair cut professionally about 3 times in her life, so it was very abnormal that she was there. Chris said that he walked in and saw the “most beautiful woman — I mean simply stunning,” and he ultimately asked the hair stylist for Katie’s number. After connecting via phone, Katie & Chris set up plans for a casual lunch date which turned into 9 hours spent together exploring Savannah & watching the sunset at Tybee. They became inseparable that summer, and when they returned to school in the fall (Chris at UGA’s Pharmacy School and Katie at Georgia Tech for graduate school), they realized how much they missed being around each other. And… well, the rest is history!
I still remember the first time Chris contacted me. He shared his romantic & thoughtful plan to propose to Katie and asked if I would photograph the occasion because “I know Katie LOVES your photography!” Not only was I flattered, but I absolutely adore helping pull off surprise proposals! That amazing day when Katie said “yes” then led to photographing their engagement & wedding, and every second of working with this couple has been a joy.
You’d be hard pressed to find two sweeter people than Katie & Chris. They went above and beyond to make sure that my entire team felt welcome & appreciated on the wedding day. Katie was one of those brides that read every blog post of mine, and I laughed when I opened her bag of “details” only to find each item marked by a sticky note explaining what it was and its significance. :) Katie & Chris also worked with me to create a dream timeline for their wedding day that prioritized time together, time to relax and enjoy the day, and time for some beautiful photos! I remember leaving their wedding at the end of the night feeling like I was on cloud nine.
Things I loved about their wedding day at The Mackey House include: the numerous picture-perfect backdrops, their red & black color scheme, the wine + letters they locked away to open during their one year anniversary, the flaming donuts at the reception, & how they kissed whenever a train went by. But my FAVORITE thing had to be how excited they were to see each other. While photographing Chris getting ready, I asked him how he was feeling and he said “I just can’t wait to see Katie.” As Katie stepped out of her bridal suite to go share a First Look with Chris, tears came to her eyes at the very thought of seeing her groom. They shared such a beautiful moment of excitement & emotion when they first laid eyes on each other. Hours later at the start of the ceremony, I got to witness it happen all over again. Katie was shaking as she walked down the aisle, and Chris teared up watching his bride-to-be walk toward him.
Today, Katie & Chris celebrate one month of married life, and I couldn’t be happier for them. Thank you, Katie & Chris, for everything. I hope these photos help you relive this amazing day over and over again. And thank you to all of the amazing vendors who contributed!!
