Marissa & Derrek met in high school while sitting next to each other in literature class their junior year. They shared a love of books and reading, and they quickly developed a strong friendship. During the summer between graduating high school and moving to college, they made an effort to visit as many used bookshops and collect as many cool, old books as they could. Even though they went to different colleges, they would often visit each other and continue this tradition. It wasn’t until their sophomore year of college that they decided to become more than friends, and they’ve never looked back.
I was overjoyed when Marissa contacted me about photographing their wedding at the Conservatory at Waterstone. She had been following my work for years, always leaving sweet comments on my Facebook photos and encouraging me in my business. And I had no idea how much she & I had in common until she became a bride of mine! Both Marissa & Derrek are huge Disney fanatics, which is where I got my start in photography. When I found out that their cake had Hidden Mickeys on it, I rushed back over to find them all. Hint: one is visible in the cake photo below… can you spot it?
Things I loved about Marissa & Derrek’s wedding day include the touches of Disney (obviously), the charms attached to Marissa’s bouquet that came from 5 grandmothers and 1 great grandmother, their super fun wedding party, their first dance to “La Vie en rose” by Louis Armstrong, the way Marissa’s younger brother Aidan doted on her all day, and most of all how the couple made sure that everyone else was taken care of. They truly have the kindest hearts, and it has been a blast working with them over the past year. Thank you, Marissa & Derrek, for trusting me to capture this special time for you.
