Mary Ann & Ryan met through mutual friends while both attending the University of Georgia. Most of their relationship unfolded in the Classic City, and they are now both employed in Athens and happy to call it “home.”
Their original plan was to have a destination wedding in Seaside, Florida… but like many couples, COVID-19 through a huge wrench in their plans. Once it became clear that they couldn’t pull off the Florida wedding, Mary Ann & Ryan made the decision to keep their same date and do something smaller and more intimate in Athens.
They were so intentional about narrowing down their guest count and uninviting people who had a high risk of exposure to COVID-19 or would be most affected if they contracted the virus. The venue & vendor team took precautions to make the day as safe as possible even with their smaller amount of guests. And I personally was THRILLED by this change of plans, because it allowed me to photograph these two again. I had taken their engagement photos in the fall but wasn’t scheduled to capture their Florida wedding, so this last-minute booking with a couple I already loved was such a sweet surprise during the pandemic.
And honestly? Their “Plan B” wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect. Toward the end of the night, Mary Ann said it was “better than she could’ve imagined.” The weather forecast was concerning, but we were blessed with clear skies until the end of the night. They were able to tie the knot in the city where they met and fell in love. Even the original stationary and bridesmaids dresses matched the colors of the venue perfectly.
I love these photos because I feel they captured the JOY that was so present on this day. Mary Ann & Ryan have such supportive friends & family who came together to celebrate, and I hope this wedding shows that as long as you stay flexible and positive and focus on what matters, Plan B can be just as good (if not 1000% better) than Plan A. Because ultimately, God’s plan is the best plan, and we just have to trust Him.
